Punting involves standing on the back of a 22' long, 3.5' wide punt boat. Motion is achieved by using a 16' wooden pole and pushing off the bottom of the river Cam. The pole is also used as a rudder to help steer.
The river Cam is divided into three sections; the upper, middle and lower. The lower river is used for rowing so the other two tiers are where punting takes place.
The middle section is known as the backs. This tour takes in seven colleges and eight bridges. It is a 2 mile return journey which takes approximately 45 minutes.
This typically takes 2 hours each way, but we offer both one-way and return chauffeured punts. This tour takes you through the meadows and fields, and is a far more relaxing, though less historic route.
